I first discovered the Island of Hilton Head, S.C. as the result of a memorable weekend of Resort Girl shagging and shopping! Back in my college days, my sister-friends had a family home down here on the island. They invited me down for a fun resort girl weekend. One of the places we went, being single, young and out for adventure, was going shagging at the Neptune Square on Shelter Cove Marina.
What RG cannot resist shagging next to a 12 foot Neptune? Well, a bronze statue of the underwater monarch, that is. Add to this the dreamy moonlight with intoxicating warm breezes coming off the docks and you’ve got the perfect evening. It’s part of the marina’s summer HarbourFest.
And yes, it is on the Intracoastal Waterway – my new pathway. So if you desire, dock your boat for a daily rate, or better yet enjoy the waterway via boat rentals, cruises, kayaks, and paddle boards. You can even get a bird’s eye view by jet packing or parasailing.
The 15.5 acre Marina overlooks the wide reaches of beautiful Broad Creek, with 170 boat slips for boats up to 135 feet in length. The day I visited last week was right after the Fourth of July fireworks – another sparkling tradition. As one fellow who was rocking in a chair with his best friend at feet pointed out to me, “Look at all the yachts docked.” There was a greater number than usual, with many of great size.
As boats now intrigue me, this was a site for my senses, so I walked down the stone pathway to get a close-up look. My favorite named boat was “Ramblin'” – and, as a ramblin’ Resort Girl, Shelter Cove Marina is a great stop. There’s plenty of food and shopping too… I’d encourage you to make it a decade-long tradition, like this Resort Girl plans to do.
