Resort Girl Clubhouse Holiday Cheers

December 18, 2015

Being a social member of a resort club is a great way for Resort Girls to celebrate the holiday season. A clubhouse full of songs, laughter, sparkling decorations and lots of food… that is one way this RG loves to ring in the holiday season.

If you are single, like this Resort Girl, it’s even better. Clubs provide a great setting to meet new friends and join other RGs in an inviting, warm and secure environment. So far this season, I have attended two parties at my new clubhouse with lots of fun and festivities at both. My two BFF RGs have joined me at these holiday celebrations and laughter, lots of eating and good cheer was enjoyed.

In addition, our pro shop had a great 30% end-of-year holiday sale – I got two club logo golf shirts with a gift certificate that was given to me. Tennis and Golf pro shop sales are a good way for members to use up all those club gift points earned by making such things as a hole-in-one on the course or winning the club championships. They are also the perfect opportunity for a fellow club member to find the perfect gift, such as a logo shirt or golf/tennis accessory, to put under the tree.

If you are not a member of a club, Resort Girls can also go to dine at a semi-private club for some clubhouse holiday cheer.

Early in the month, I was staying at the Inn at Harbour Town and dined several times at the beautiful new Links Clubhouse next door. Located on the historic Harbour Town golf course, this clubhouse was decorated in spectacular fashion. This impressive tree was stunning against the swirling marble staircase.

And then there are the sparkling and festive decorations around resort entrances. I am not very good at putting up lights, but there’s no need for me to do the work, as they have wrapped the palm trees at my neighborhood entrance – steps away – with white lights. I can see them from my window and enjoy them just as if they were in my yard.

Resort living and clubhouse happenings are a great way for Resort Girls (and Resort Guys) to enjoy the holiday. The social gatherings are a warm, causal and inviting way to celebrate the season.

This weekend, I will be wrapping up my clubhouse parties with one last breathtaking resort holiday cocktail party. Hmmm..I wonder what I will wear? The party atmosphere lends to the fun, as you don’t have to wear the traditional dress. Nancy from Lilly at Belk’s in Shelter Cove, Hilton Head, S.C. says this palm print dress is the one to wear this year to holiday resort parties.

Resort Girl Strolls South Beach Marina Village

December 16, 2015

What a great sunny winter day go to meet at the “Salty Dog” café and outdoor bar – one of Hilton Head’s most famous spots. And another great day vacay in Sea Pines Resort, S.C – the South Beach Marina Village.

resort-girl-7

When a sunny December day comes my way, I pop in my SUV and pay the $6 entry fee to get access to the resort for a day vacay. With my new home, I am only 15 minutes away, so it has become a weekly adventure to relax and reflect around at the resort.

This Resort Girl also needed a cool sweatshirt, so went to the Salty Dog store at the Marina. www.saltydog.com

They have a great selection of fun resort-themed apparel, hats and huggies, many of which feature the Salty Dog’s famous mascot, Jake the Dog. When visiting a store, I always ask about the top sellers to keep Resort Girls in the know. This time one is a new item and so cute – Salty Dog socks. They have paw prints on the bottom of each foot! What a conversation piece – and young RGs will love them as well.

After a little shopping, this Resort Girl was off on her next adventure – a sunshine-lit walk on the Marina Village boardwalk, visiting the shops and discovering water opportunities.

The brochure said the marina offers rentals for waverunners, kayaks and paddle boards. There are also many fishing opportunities as well as bike rentals. I have ridden my bike so many times from South Beach (there is an excellent and safe bike trail for the entire family.)

There is no beach parking there, so beware, but the Village offers a quaint Inn and condo accommodations around the area. www.SBInn.com

This breathtaking part of the Sea Pines is called the Calibogue Sound—a coastal inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. Here you can see the Harbour Town lighthouse from the end of the beach and also Daufuskie Island across the sound.

And when this relaxing day ended, I was joined by a local seagull on my walk back on the boardwalk – it was a sunny and memorable Resort Girl December day beach vacay!

Resort Girls on a Journey of Self Renewal

December 14, 2015
resort-girls-dolphins

Two women on a journey of self renewal…. my mother and me. Three years ago, both of us suddenly became single again (after my divorce and my father’s passing), and we were in our 50 and 80s. It’s funny how things happen in life and who you are spiritually paired with in times of need, growth and comfort.

My mother has been a big inspiration behind Resort Girl. She reads my blogs over and over again. I’ll ring her up and read them to her while I write over our morning coffee..

Mother always reminded me to remain positive and uplifting because someone out there might just need a smile or brief escape from something going on in their life… as the two of us did many days and nights.

It is tough, but it is also thrilling – being single again in this world at a more advanced age. There is so much to re-learn from how to manage a home by yourself, start a new career, gain new friends (as many go with the divorce) and then there is dating again!

Mother and I have held each other’s hands many days walking into new venues and on new adventures. We’ve rediscovered our mother/daughter relationship that has been neglected many times through life’s daily obligations.

Family members can make some of the best Resort Girls… generational RGs. In times of celebration and even in times of renewal… going to a familiar cherished resort or destination brings comfort and common ground.

My mother loved Hilton Head and watching the dolphins swim by her side. Being RGs and traveling together gave us many stories to share back home, and also fun to look forward to the next time.

Thank you to my mother for being a Resort Girl inspiration. And Relaxing, Reflecting and Recharging together as RGs….

Puttin’ on your Resort Girl Persona

December 11, 2015

One of the most fun things about being a Resort Girl is puttin’ on your RG persona!

A Resort Girl is on one continuous journey – exploring her physical and mental abilities while living gracefully with nature. She is an adventuresome woman who dreams of far-away places, relaxing but recharging experiences and words of wisdom to reflect.

Yesterday, I wrapped up my second Resort Girl shoot with the wonderful team at Momentus Marketing. The first shoot took places in the North Georgia Mountains and this time on the South Carolina Shores. Mil Cannon is a genius behind the camera with Andre Riedlinger making all the rest come together. Most of all, they make it fun to live my Resort Girl persona on film.

And having some great friends, coaches and South Carolina resort partners in the pictures makes them shine even more. Top it off with the beautiful backdrops of the low country and beaches – the lush green fairways, moss-covered trees, white sandy beaches and clear blue skies were all breathtaking backdrops. We will start sharing photos in the coming weeks!

Resort Girls, you all have special style and allure – your RG persona. And RGs are the new “it” girls!

resort-girl-smiling

My hopes are to continue to showcase ways to bring out your signature style – for an RGs to pick and choose what fits her unique persona.

But, we also want to hear from you…what do you like to do to make your Resort Girl persona shine?

Please share how you put on your Resort Girl persona by posting on Resort Girl Facebook, or hashtagging #ResortGirl on your Instagram. All of us want to see what makes you smile as a Resort Girl!

Cheers to having fun being a Resort Girl… and to relaxing, recharging and reflecting!
