Resort Girl Rocks In Fall at the Ritz Carlton, Reynolds Plantation

October 27, 2015

Lake Oconee and Reynolds Plantation served as a serene backdrop for my first fall RG roadtrip, and the Ritz Carlton Reynolds offered all the rest.

Ritz

I chose the backroads of Georgia as my avenue to get there – winding through beautiful Braselton, Social Circle and Winder. There is nothing like cruising through small southern towns with their historic downtown districts and restored homes. Plus, there is the pleasure of driving on winding road along farm lands filled with fall colored trees in golden and red hues.

Once reaching Reynolds Plantation, the Ritz Carlton, the anchor hotel of the plantation was the “where” of my RG road trip. But there are many lakeside and golf cottages and private homes available to rent.

The Ritz offers a hunting lodge feel and an almost luxe camping experience, with many outdoor experiences located just steps outside of the hotel doors. My sister and niece met me at the hotel to make this a Resort Girls Vacay!

Here are a few Resort Girl highlights, sharing some of our favorite spots:

A serene dip in the infinity pool with mile-long Lake Oconee water views.

Poolside

Enjoying a healthy and, yes, gluten-free lunch with lake breezes in your hair at Gaby’s by the Lake.

Next time, we will play some golf on the rolling links of the Oconee Course.

Golf-Course

I also had a delicious dinner in the Clubhouse, at the Linger Longer Steakhouse with super service. Thanks to Eric—table 22, who made us a special RG sweet treat!

Then I watched the fireworks and roasted marshmallows to make some s’mores. The next day began by waking up to a spectacular sunrise along the shores and pristine waters of Lake Oconee.

This Resort Girl could have used another day to get used of all the daily activities such as golfing, spa treatments, boating and even paddle boarding but, sadly, I had to get back, as this was just a quick overnight vacay.

The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation was a perfect place to rock in fall… and a “where” to keep on my Resort Girl list.

Draw Your Life Goals on the Back of a Napkin, Resort Girls

October 23, 2015

Resort Girls, have some fun drawing some of your life goals on back of a napkin.

I use the backs of napkins as a way to jot down inspirations from a vacay or entertainment spot. It’s a great way to have both the place – the “where” – with my “why” written down.

Think of it as your resort life napkin files. You can even get a nice travel log and keep them in the back of it with extra notes logged in. There is an entire book written by Dan Roam on using the back-of-a-napkin concept. It was required reading in one of SCAD’s graduate visual communication classes.

Visions are as necessary as written down plans. Sometimes they may be even more important, since if you can see it, you can reach it, which in turn will help you explain it better to others. As the old saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

I like this particular slide from Dan Roam’s The Back of the Napkin Workshop, found on SlideShare.

When building your 6Ps of a perfect Resort girl life, visual thinking is a good thing to do. As Mr. Roam states, “Look, See, Imagine and Show” your ideas.

Resort Girl, you are constructing a “life plan” and most likely it will entail taking many trips, engaging in much research, having lots of fun and just experiencing some trial and error. So, start collecting your napkins, files, or life travel log and start drawing your own Resort Girl stick figure on the back of them answering a “P” or 2 of your life plan, depending on the “where” and “what” you see. Use doodles to envision how you see yourself in that place or “P”.

In another SCAD class, I had to learn how to draw stick figures — but my teacher let me be creative and make mine in the form of a flower — a sprout. The sprout represented my sprouting a new life – and always wanting to soak up the sun and grow in mind, body and spirit.

I now draw my sprout on back of napkins. She is having fun relaxing, reflecting and recharging. So, take a moment today and doodle your RG stick figure on your lunch break or on the bus home or while at your favorite vacay or entertainment spot.

Start collecting some visions of your perfect life. It is a fun and creative way to make your Resort Girl Perfect life plan come true.

My little sprouts are my inspiration…my cheerleaders… to building my Perfect Resort Girl life.

The When and Winds of a Resort Girl Life

October 21, 2015

Each season of a RG’s life brings different aspects of the 6 Ps of her perfect Resort Girl lifestyle.

As the fall winds are blowing in, this RG ponders the “when” of the rest of my Resort Girl dream life – as this might change the “where.” All seasons are fantastic, enriching and empowering, they just may vary in a few areas.

Today, as I walked amongst the brilliant red fall leaves and crisp cool breezes along the shores of Lake Lanier, it brought back a “when.” Stopping for a brief repose, my mind went back to a favorite time in my life living in the mountains of Big Canoe.

What was special about living there was ” where” – the majestic secluded mountains – and how we had to live. About a decade ago, there were only a handful of places to eat out and a grocery store, which we had to a travel into the city to get to.

View-from-Bar

But this made life more fun, as we had a lot more personal dinners and gatherings. After all, who had been to the grocery lately? The Black Bear Pub at our clubhouse was also a great place to gather – and we had this very odd Monday party night. Since the club was not too busy, they let us RG&Gs take it over and we all did – with music, a happy hour, dancing and many laughs.

Black-Bear-Pub

It was an odd way to start off the week, but in a good way. It made me think today of “when” that was right for my life. It was right then! I still return, as have so many dear friends there, and I even did my Resort Girl photo shoot there recently.

But now, being single again, the winds have brought in change in how and “where” to live my dream life. That was then… this is now… the winds of change have blown in.

It is a new season, and I have new reasons to modify my master Resort Girl lifestyle plan. But when Resort Girls figure out their master plan – it is just modifications.

You have the formula down.

It is just a wind blowing in and a change in the “when” – and maybe a “where.”

But you are still arriving there – to your ultimate destiny… your perfect Resort Girl life!

Keep dreaming, modifying and let the winds keep you on course to your path in life, Resort Girl!

Resort Girl, Take Flight to Build Your Dream Life

October 19, 2015
BirdinflightPBluff

Resort Girl, where do you see yourself in 5 years? That is the first question to building your RG Perfect lifestyle.

A Resort Girl’s formula for the “6Ps of a Perfect Lifestyle”:

(Where + What + Who + “To Do”) + (How + Why) = Life Dream Come True!

Building a perfect lifestyle is very similar to building a business or career. Some start early building their lifestyle, some start later, but many times we overlook the need to be in balance until we lose one part of that lifestyle. If one leaves, you still have a foundation to build back the others. And if you have a master plan and vision for your Resort Girl life, then you have your personal roadmap to get back on track. Call this your Resort Girl Guidebook to a Perfect Life!

Resort Girls, begin asking yourself the following questions:

• Where do I see myself in 5 years?
• What is my life Plan to get there?
• Do I need a Partner?
• What are the pieces “to do” to Produce my lifestyle?
• What do I need to/or not Pursue to achieve it?
• What is my unique Purpose?

The “Where” is what we are focusing on today, as it is the lifting off point – the invention time. As blogged earlier, life is about creating yourself.

Birdliftingoff

Resort Girl, you are creating your Perfect life. So the first P, “Where” questions might be:

• Where do I want to be living in 5 years – place, living space?
• Where the majority/mix of your time being spent is – work or play?
• Where is your income coming in from – dream career, part-time work, semi-retired or full retirement?
• Where are your favorite Relaxing spots? Top beach spots, favorite spas, porch rocker.
• Where are your favorite Reflecting Places? Yoga classes, your private garden.
• Where are your favorite Recharging Activities? Golf, tennis, hiking, gardening adventures.

These are just a few “Where” questions to begin asking yourself and jotting down in your Resort Girl “6Ps to a Perfect Life” guidebook.

Ready, set, go! Cheers to building your dream life, Resort Girl.

Resort Girls Get A Little Nutty

October 16, 2015
CahillPeanut

Don’t Resort Girls just wanna have fun? Be a little nutty and take an island escape — or just rock on a porch.

Seeing the world’s largest boiled peanut at Cahill’s on Monday inspired me to write this blog. Don’t we all need to get a bit nutty sometimes? It can’t hurt, especially with the stresses of the holiday season approaching.

So, how do Resort Girls like to get nutty? What I am figuring out from your wonderful feedback is that it’s not always by traveling. It could be, with the beach seeming to rank among the top destinations, but you can also let loose by chilling at a friend’s house or just on your front porch. Yes, rocking in the fall on your own rocker – that seems to do the trick. (See “Porching is a Prescription for Longer Life”)

DownloadfromGuestSuite-436

Resort Girl and Guy minds need a brief mind escape when life gets nutty. The porch provides meditative place with a rocking chair, outdoor air, and birds chirping everywhere. Maybe sometimes all we need is the memory of that quick vacay escape to the islands – even while sitting in an office cubicle – or even just turning on an island tune.

Yesterday, I faced a seven-hour, grueling traffic-jammed trip to and through what is called one of the busiest and longest work commutes in America — Atlanta — on the way back to my city home.

Now, that will make anyone nutty – but in the wrong way. So to get back to my Resort Girl roots, I turned on some beach tunes. As this RG sang along, I got some interesting looks from fellow drivers, as I was acting a bit nutty, but it calmed my soul as the ocean breezes blew around in my mind.

All Resort Girls sing happy tunes and act a little nutty. After all, we all just wanna have some fun.

So as the acorns start to fall, let’s have some fun and rock in the fall.

Resort Girls, how do you get nutty?

Resort Girls Are Beautiful Butterflies

October 15, 2015
Resort Girl Butterfly

What stage of a butterfly are you, Resort Girl? Are you ready to take wings? The Monarch butterflies have been gracefully floating beside me on my morning beach walks on this end-of-season beach trip.

As I’m always looking for inspiration, the beautiful-winged Queen of insects was my inspiration today. Little did I know the symbolic power of the butterfly, but some quick research tells a historic, rich and wonderful story!

Beach

A key symbolic reference is the transformation into beauty and power. The butterfly is also a symbol of a joy. However, this transformation doesn’t occur until the final of five stages of growth. It must first be a not-so-pretty caterpillar before ultimately transforming into a breathtaking butterfly.

But that caterpillar does have a relaxing time in its cocoon – chilling on a leaf in a pretty cool pad. In the cocoon stage, this transforming creature enjoys itself in a safe harbor – relaxing, reflecting and recharging while working on its spirit. It is a time when all the world is shut out, almost like a rebirth but the creature already has knowledge of life. It has a solid foundation built from learning, crawling and avoiding predators – it has survived to enjoy the cocoon stage.

All this gave the newly-born butterflies a strong foundation to migrate to new places and soar high in the skies. The majority of butterflies only last a few weeks, but a few will last much longer.

I wonder if the spirit of the last generation is more bold and fearless. They can last, and make the long distances. They have built up their muscles, minds and spirit to stretch the distances. They will not let anything hold them back. They will fly against the winds… they will become Monarchs.
