Resort Girls, Experience the Intimacy of an Inn

October 12, 2015
RG-Front-Page

Inns can provide an intimate environment with a more quiet and personal aura. Their smaller size also affords them some spectacular natural settings.

Resort Girls, think about rocking in the fall at an inn or lodge. There is something warm and cozy about them, especially in the cool fall evenings. From the mountain breezes coming off your intimate, little balcony overlooking majestic landscapes, to a private beach, to a glorious golf course or the red bursts of tree leaves, it all adds up to one thing – paradise. Fall hiking, golf and tennis are just steps away from your room.

Another option for RGs is to rock in fall at a quaint beach inn, wearing luxe soft sweaters and feeling the cool sea breezes against our faces. A community bonfire is just a few sandy steps away – and warm, gooey s’mores!

This Resort Girl loves luxe inns and lodges for these reasons, and these smaller accommodations provide a private setting where the staff gets to know you by name, and when traveling solo, that can be a good thing.

Decades ago, I first experienced the grand views from a lodge at the El Tovar Lodge in the Grand Canyon – considered a crown jewel in historic park lodges.

We were originally placed in a nearby lodge with no views, as the El Tovar was booked, but my eyes wanted to open to a canyon view. So, how did this determined RG get in? Here’s an RG tip: If you stand at an inn’s check-in desk during cancellation time, you have a chance to pick up rooms that become available. I stood there and waited and waited! And for my efforts, this RG finally ended up getting her El Tovar room with a grand view!

One of my favorite inns is The Inn at Harbour Town, Sea Pines in Hilton Head, S.C. It is where I now stay when staying in Hilton Head while awaiting my new home’s closing. My first visit to the Inn goes back three years ago, during my life transition, which was also during the winter months. The inn was decorated in twinkling holiday lights and décor, giving it a festive flair. European touches could be seen in the use of traditional plaids, silks and a paneled library giving the space a cozy air. I loved writing my blogs there.

RG-Living-Room

This Resort Girl enjoys the intimate settings, plus the bonus addition of a tranquil swimming pool. Most of all, the in  is home to the top ranked Harbour Town golf course and a renovated Clubhouse – both offering spectacular views with rooms located on the front tee!

There are so many beautiful inns to visit, many of which this Resort Girl wants to discover this fall and winter.

One stop on my Resort Girl rockin’ fall agenda is to visit the Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands. An inn with a spa – now that is this a Resort Girl’s paradise.

Where do you love to rock in fall, Resort Girls? Share with us your favorite intimate inns… and ask when visiting if any RGs are stayin’ there!

Like The Palm Tree, Resort Girls Bend But Don’t Break

October 9, 2015

Is a Resort Girl’s backbone strong, like a palm tree? Bending, but not breaking, in the strong winds of life.

A few months back during my suite stay, a fierce thunderstorm came rolling in from the river. I watched the winds violently bash against the trees and underbrush, but the palm trees caught my eye as they stayed strong against the fierce winds just swaying and losing only their dead limbs. The other trees, however, bent wildly with large healthy branches crashing down into the marsh.

So, when I read a passage in my local paper comparing a woman’s backbone to the strength of a palm tree, it sparked this blog.

DawnChere´ Wilkerson of Rendezvous, Miami spoke using this analogy at The Divine Women’s conference held in Gainesville, GA. Her message was for women to, “…stand strong against their pasts and their flaws.”

According to research, the palm tree has also historically stood for peace and paradise, with many using the term, “Let him bear the palm who deserved it.” And. of course, the coconut palm is a symbol associated with the tropics on flags and seals.

So, when a Resort Girl says, “I want a piece of paradise,” there will most likely be a palm tree involved. For me, this was true. It was one of my Ps for my Perfect lifestyle Plan. Each morning when I popped open my window, there it stood—my very own palm tree in my little courtyard.

But, now this Resort Girl will look differently at my palm tree:

The palm tree.

It will become a symbol of moving forward and staying strong in the winds of life.

It will serve as a reminder of keeping a strong foundation both physically, mentally, and spiritually.

It will be a reminder of the victories in life.

It will give a sense of paradise and peace.

This Resort Girl is happy to have her palm tree as part of building her Perfect lifestyle. Is a Palm tree part of your Ps of your Perfect life, Resort Girls?

Life Isn’t About Finding Yourself, Life Is About Creating Yourself

October 7, 2015
RG-Homepage

Resort Girl, what is on the vision board for your ultimate life? Is it living on a beautiful boat and sailing the open seas? Could it be opening up a little tea shop or teaching yoga by the seaside? Or would it be loving what you do by just making everyday a weekend by living the Resort Girl lifestyle?

When faced with a total life transition, this Resort Girl had an open slate to start a new life, but from my past experience as an entrepreneur, I knew it was not about finding a new life, but rather building one!

For the first year, my focus was on improving my professional skills, so I became a college grad art student at SCAD. Then, under the persona of SmartSamantha, I penned the WizBizKids® biz book series.

GardenGateKids

The books are for enlightening youth about “The 6Ps of an Idea”: Guidebooks to Creating a Super Cool Idea. The 6P methodology’s formula is:

(What + How + Who + “To Do”) + (Sell + Sale) = Idea Come True!

Then the thought hit me one day! I should start applying the “6P’s of an Idea” methodology to my desired “Perfectlifestyle not just “Professionalcareer?

You can do it too Resort Girls, just ask yourself the following questions:

  • Where do I see myself in 5 years?
  • What is my life Plan to get there?
  • Do I need a Partner?
  • What are the pieces to Produce my lifestyle?
  • What do I need to Purchase to achieve it?
  • And how am I going to continue to grow and be Promoted?

As women, we all go through life changes, including the BIG life change starting around our mid 40s. Our lives shift and, as children leave the nest, things become hot with your body — the sweats — but most of all during these times, one realizes how short life is!

Granted, most of us are still working either full-time or part-time, but what are you doing after hours? Have you lived your ultimate life? Make time before it runs out.

Resort Girls, live your dreams by thinking through the 6Ps and using them to help achieve your “Perfect” life!

A Resort Girl’s ‘She Shed’ by the Seashore

October 5, 2015
RG-Seaside

Every Resort Girl deserves her own space and place to relax and reflect. The new wave for getting that space is by creating your own “She Shed” – a twist on the infamous “man cave”.

They can be as simple as a little wooden cottage by the water’s edge or a fine modern modular unit in your city backyard. They are meant to be small in space, but large in wonder and filled with inspiration. Some great She Shed photos can be found at PureWow.

The concept back brought back memories of this Resort Girl’s wishes for a She Shed. About two decades ago, I bought my first home located in Buckhead, within the bustling city limits of Atlanta. I used to laugh as many called it a cottage, but to me it was a small house — my first home was a house! The home was small, but the lot was over an acre-and-half, filled with mature hardwoods and lush green undergrowth. The most beautiful part was in the back quarter where on old potting table remained — the land is what called my name.

Every day, I would wander back in the yard and dream of a place to sit and enjoy the sounds of the birds and get a bit of personal space — a quiet escape from city life. Nature has always been my favorite retreat for inspiration, so I seek it out even when I’m in the city.

My thought at the time was, why not put a little shed back here? I had recently been to Home Depot and saw all of those modular metal sheds by the garden center. I could put in a little writing table and decorate it to my tastes and this would provide a little space for my thoughts, dreams and desires.

Now, this is a popular trend for women! We are getting our own personal spaces. Some Resort Girls wish to mediate, some to create, some to entertain, and some to just relax and reflect.

These spaces can be filled with fluffy floor pillows and chairs, tiny writing and craft tables, dream boards, etc. They can also be surrounded by trickling fountains, little gardens and window boxes, and even a hammock. Technology can be a part of it now with wi-fi if you wish for soothing music, but try and leave your ringer off. Take your mind off of the world around you and escape into your thoughts and desires, or just recall some great memories past – relax and reflect, Resort Girl.

There are now many ready-made plans and modular units to be found on the web. There is far more to choose from than two decades ago, when a simple metal shed caught my fancy, but maybe your perfect She Shed is just a little wooden one, made of leftover lumber from a local work site or reclaimed wood from a historic place or even a chapel. The spirits of the past can help inspire the future in your little Resort Girl She Shed.

Find a place in a city yard or seashore and watch the sunrise in your She Shed.

Confidence Is Queen In Golf, Resort Girl

October 2, 2015
FullbodyGolfMountain

Confidence is queen in golf. If you don’t have it on the course, you might as well walk off. Golf, like many sports, is a muscle and mind game and in golf, mind matters equally to moves.

Resort Girls are now playing their own games – not just as a spouse or girlfriend – so much so that women are now the ones taking the initiative to sign on the dotted line for many country club and golf memberships…including this Resort Girl.

Many times, RGs will play by themselves on a course full of highly seasoned golfers, both men and women. There is nothing more intimidating than standing on that mile-high tee box with three people staring at you and possibly four more in queue for the box. This is when all RG beginner golfers need confidence.

BCMountainRanges

And how do you get confidence? Instruction, playing lessons and practice, practice and practice. Just like any other sport, practice make perfect, and in golf – between the swing motion, hand grips, ball position to course conditions, etc. – RGs need knowledge.

Unfortunately, many Resort Girls do not take the time to get lessons and quickly get frustrated with the game and give it up. Many RGs may also feel intimidated about the sport, let alone even entering a clubhouse, so a golf course etiquette course is highly recommended to make RGs feel at ease. Practice and etiquette makes a Resort Girl queen on the golf course.

I personally started taking lessons before venturing out on a golf course. My first was a combo vacay and instructional golf trip to sunny Florida. I became hooked when I hit my first iron and the trainer exclaimed, “Are you a ringer? Look how straight you hit that ball – and on your first try!”

My golf education was uphill and downhill from there. I visited many more courses, from Vail to California to Florida, and took many more lessons in a variety of venues and people, from group to individual.

“Achievement is largely the product of steadily raising ones level of aspiration and expectation.” -Jack Nicklaus

To me, the key is also finding the right pro for your personality – your “Golf Whisperer”. Mine was at Big Canoe Resort about a decade ago, and we spent many days on the driving range and practicing on the hilly mountains courses. I am still a property owner to this day.

A good “golf whisperer” has the ability to sense one’s personal traits and skills. When your pro keenly knows your own Resort Girl strengths and weaknesses, he or she can build a personalized and peak program for you.

There is no better time to play among the majestic mountains, especially when the leaves are turning vibrant colors or when cool sea or lake breezes brush up against your face while you’re bundled up in your stylish golf sweater.

Enjoy the glory of a good round of golf, Resort Girls and remember: Confidence is queen!

You Are A Pearl, Resort Girl

September 30, 2015
RG-Pearl

Each and every Resort Girl has her own special pearl. Not just a necklace (although a good one is classic), but beautiful, charming, and memorable characteristic(s).

Is it not wonderful that each and every RG has her own image, and that she has the confidence to show it, work it and polish it? She does not need to conform to what society says is the “It” thing, as she is her own unique “It”!

That is what Resort Girl is all about: empowering women to lead a life of their own and to always explore their own unique journey, as well as appreciate the gifts given to them.

‘Polishing your Pearls’ was the theme for our women’s conference six years ago up in beautiful Big Canoe. Tonight, while organizing some notes, I found an old folded-up print out – a precious piece from Dr. James McCormick that inspired my Wednesday blog.

Resort Girls and Guys will find a new blog post here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or as often as possible, unless a cool RG event keeps us away a day or two (but we are always thinking of you on those days)!

Now, back to the conference. Dr. McCormick was the opening speaker at the women’s conference in 2009. This Resort Girl sat there listening to his inspirational speech with a great deal of enthusiasm, as he is a man whose words stick with you. The beauty of the mountains and the beauty of his words made it a cherished day for this RG, even to this day.

Big-Canoe

Dr. McCormick wanted every woman participating to realize, “they are special and one of a kind. A distinctive, unrepeatable miracle of love… of infinite worth and significance, as that is the way you were created.”

He went on to say:

“Listen now, I’m about to say something important. If you want your life to be good, and if you want to help others make their lives good, here is how to do it: make it a primary goal of your life to discover your pearl – that unique thing that makes you you – discover it, polish it – use it – then, in the strength of that, go around every day helping other people discover their pearls too.”

Resort Girls, keep polishing your pearls. A fun thing you can also do is find a real little pearl to polish here and there….to carry in your hand when you need inspiration, or maybe just a little boost of confidence or to remember your unique RG characteristics.

Just the other day, I found a beautiful black sea pearl in my drawer that was taken off of a bracelet to shorten it. As I was writing this blog, I went to my drawer, pulled it out and began polishing it.

While doing this, I pondered my unique characteristics, but as it fell out of my hand, onto the floor and rolled away, it made me realize finding those characteristics is a day-by-day journey. Follow it… go with it… and always cherish your pearl.

You are a pearl, Resort Girl! Shine on and help your BFF RG polish hers too!
