Resort Girl Takes in the Action at the PGA Tour

September 28, 2015

Can a Resort Girl turn down free tickets to a PGA Tour? No way! This RG was offered free tickets to the PGA Tour at East Lake!

Being a work week day, it was hard to get a Resort Girl or Guy buddy. So, what is a safe and stylish way to go if, at last minute, a Resort Girl must go to an event alone? Call a taxi or even splurge for a sedan or limo! And there is a fantastic firm in Atlanta for RGs called Greene Limo.

They will drop you off and pick you up in a safe, secure area. This Resort Girl lucked out and got picked up in a 6 person stretch, as sedans were scarce. I did not complain when I saw it pulling down East Lake Drive.

We were even allowed to exit through the same, secure PGA tour exit used by the players, as the car was too big to turn around. And what a PGA tour day it was! The sun was out on Thursday with a cool, brisk fall breeze in the air.

A fellow Resort Girl in the hotel locker room made me feel confident, giving me a two thumbs up on my outfit before heading out to watch  the tour.

This is every stylish Resort Guy and Girl’s dream — to stand out on the course. Even if it you are not playing well, you can still look darn good! Sporting events are no different than any top social event. RG and Gs want to have style and stand out from the crowd.

HotelLockerroom

I styled myself in Nike clothes from Edwin Watts and new neon shades. I complemented my look with neon-accented accessories – from shoe laces to the rubber soles of my Ecco golf shoes.

The cool breeze caused me to pop on my neon diamond knee socks to keep my legs warm. I always keep a pair in my fall bag (and by the way, they are totally a style hit.) Several guys came up and gave my look an enthusiastic two thumbs up.

Do not underestimate the power of a stylish sock  – be it knee, boot or thigh-high. It adds POW to your outfit! But, here’s an RG tip – with fashion knee socks, you must double up a sock for sport with a fun footie one. I used a neon one for this outfit.

It is fun to find your personal Resort Girl or Guy style and see what works by getting feedback from fellow RGs. One other RG fashion tip is to mix up your sporting and resort looks with accessories. Feel free to mix sporting lines — yoga for tennis, tennis for golf, etc. Tennis and even yoga jackets work well for golf, as my tour day jacket was from Zella active wear by Nordstrom’s. This line has great lines, patterns and sexy slits.

The PGA Tour day event itself was a blast and, thanks to Charles Schwab, I got an up close view of the 14th green from the Schwab Sky Box. There’s nothing like being eye-to-eye with the best golfers in the world. Add free food, beer and a classy crowd — what an RG day to remember! And this brings up another good thing about using a car service – you don’t have to drive home and can add a bit of early afternoon cheer to your tour.

A word of advice, Resort Girls  – always be smart and know your personal cheering limits. No stumbling to the car – as many times they are parked far from the action during sporting events and you’ve gotta remember where the pick-up stand is!

As this RG has said before – Resort Girls have the confidence and smarts on how to go it alone!

And it was a day to remember! This RG plans to attend more PGA tour events. RGs, if you find yourself given free tickets to an event, don’t shy away from going – even if you find out last minute you are on your own. Call a car, go in style, go with confidence, but most importantly have smarts when you go it alone.

Resort Girls and Guys, share your favorite PGA Tour day experience!

Resort Girl Flies on the Wings of Eagles

September 28, 2015
Eagle

At my breakfast table this morning, these words just came to this Resort Girl: Thank you for the opportunity to play another day and to soar high with the eagles in the sky. Play can mean so many different things – going into the great outdoors for an adventure, sport or spiritual renewal, playing games around the fireplace or taking a cherished family member or your best furry friend on a walk or dip in the lake.

It means having the good health, both mental and physical (and even spiritual), to be able to play. And that means keeping balance in your life. Playing, partying, parenting and working too hard burns out a body and soul. It’s a case of too many opportunities with too little time.

A few years back, this Resort Girl did not have that balance. My entrepreneurial mind is in high gear at all times and the opportunities and ideas that spring from it are endless. The key is how to keep things real and realistic. Shark Tank is a big hit and I can constantly hear the hum of those wanting to make it big.

Just make sure that if you want to hit the big bottom line, you are willing to pay the costs. Is it worth not seeing your family – or even losing it? It is worth losing your health? Is it worth losing your spirit and character?

Also, consider this – is it worth losing the opportunity to play? If there is no recess, and rest – life becomes a jail cell where you are chained to endless hours behind the desk and trapped behind the steel bars of an office window.

These words came to me about a decade ago and wrote this poem:

In corner of my eye
Came gliding by
A glimpse from the sky

Oh, how gentle the eagle danced
Weaving in and out of the steel window slants

A reminder to my soul
To balance my goals

For the freedom is given to all living creatures
To soar high above the cold, cement features

We have the freedom to live a balanced life one with body, mind and soul. We have the opportunity to play another day. We sometimes just need to find the way – weaving in and out – to find a healthy balance. For then we can fly on the wings of eagles and grow strong, not weary.

The path may be tough at first, but in the end the rewards are far greater than any bottom-line driven life.

This Resort Girl is thankful for the opportunity to have the health, happiness and strength to play another day…

Reflect in a Garden Pond to Find Your Path

September 23, 2015

If you need a day to reflect, there is nothing better than wandering deep into a garden forest where there are only sounds of trickling streams and your footsteps. It’s okay to even get a bit lost because, as Resort Girls, sometimes you need to get lost to find your path.

WeepingWillow

As a writer, many days this Resort Girl needs a place for reflection and inspiration, and a garden forest is a perfect place. So, last weekend, seeking a scenic drive and place to ponder on a glorious sunny day, I hopped in my trusty SUV and headed to the majestic Gibbs Gardens.

It is located near my old stomping grounds, Big Canoe, and just a short ride outside the Atlanta city limits or from the North Georgia area. A daily pass is only $20, and they also have great deals on a 4-season pass.

This garden is a lifelong dream of entrepreneurial landscaper Jim Gibbs. In his garden brochure letter, Mr. Gibbs welcomes you by saying:

“Gibbs Gardens started out as a 300-acre private family estate in 1980, but I always had the dream of creating a world-class public garden. For more than 30 years I designed and developed the land, creating 220 acres of landscaped gardens adjacent to spring-fed streams, ponds and lakes, surrounded by the hillsides covered with mature woodlands. With this magnificent scenery as my canvas, I’ve been committed to achieving a balance between natural and man-made elements to create ‘harmony with nature’ throughout Gibbs Gardens.”

It was water lily season at Gibbs. The blossoms floating amongst the ponds are a seasonal sighting – right out of a Monet painting.

LilliesGibbs

As this RG looked into the pond, what I saw made me ponder. Maybe a Resort Girl’s reflection can give a new direction? Sometimes we need to reflect on our life and see if we are heading down the right path and in the right direction.

That is when reflection is needed. Others see things we may not, but maybe the quiet of only hearing your footsteps can turn up the volume on things others have been saying to you. With the busy lives so many Resort Girls  – and their families – now live, it is hard to see the truth of where we are heading and how we are getting there.

BirdReflection

It takes turning off the computer and the TV and heading outdoors or to a quiet place, were there is nothing else other than your thoughts and the sound of your own footsteps. In this quiet space, you might hear in your mind the sound of some advice given to you recently that you may have failed to before. You may hear the sweet voices of family members who have said they love you and were concerned about you; voices drowned out by your busy daily grind. You may also discover a health issue that becomes noticeable when all of your senses are in gear and you have time to feel or a career choice that might be time to upgrade or reset. It’s also always a great time to connect with your spiritual side to see if you are getting lost….

So, Resort Girls, find a majestic garden to get a bit lost in to keep you on track and maybe you might just change your path.

A Return to Avalon for Some Resort Girl Fun and Finds

September 21, 2015

One of this Resort Girl’s fave short vacays still has got to be Avalon in Alpharetta, GA. My SUV just wants to pull off the interstate for a visit every time I drive into the city.

My spur of the moment RG vacay usually begins with a filling lunch, as you need energy to walk the Avalon avenues. My choice is Whole Foods, where this country RG can pick up some city food and choice groceries. This is such a popular spot and the parking lot gets pretty packed at lunch, but there are plenty of indoor and outdoor seats to park yourself at. Not to mention, the food selection is AMAZING! There’s almost too much to choose from for this Resort Girl! Then, on top of that, I have to walk by that swirling case of ice cream and the large glass cases of every sweet delicious dessert an RG could desire. I just sit there and stare and let my mouth water!

Next, I head off to walk the avenues of Avalon and to walk off the calories – so indulge a bit, just like this Resort Girl does.

With each return to Avalon, I find a few new stores to explore since there are so many but, there is so little time on a quick, day long vacay. My first choice was the Anthropologie store, where I discovered the most adorable decorative accents for a RG’s bath or kitchen. What a fun set of RG & G mermaid towels to have hanging off your retro-style oven in your beach bungalow.

DishtowelsAnthrop

I could just image my robe hanging from a cute swordfish hook or one of the colorful fish knobs!

FishyAnthrop

Can you imagine repainting a consignment dresser (RGs like to recycle) in a bold color or a bright white and adding a touch of art with these little fishies?

Then it was off to Lululemon. This store is a staple for Resort Girls, as we are all so active and need our attractive activewear. The Lululemon sales team is a great resource to help you personalize your workout attire. On my personal workouts, I have found compression helps with my weaker muscles, made so die to fibromyalgia. The Lulu sales team picked out a pair of Tight Stuff Tight bottoms for me and I love them, as they have great support but also are sexy — I got mine in red!

I also found it was a great time to pick up a pair of sculpt shorts that were on sale. I am thinking about wearing these under my tennis and golf skirts for more support.

It turns out this RG was just about to miss some runway fashion fun on the avenues of Avalon. Outside the Lulu store they had set up a runway for a magical fall evening benefit for Bert’s Big Adventure. What fun to be one of these VIPs!

AvalonChairs

There are so many stores to visit, and each time this Resort Girl picks a few to explore and remember for her next return trip to Avalon.

Just walking down the streets is a relaxing experience – to sit and reflect in their cushy outdoor couches on what you saw, what you smelled and all the sounds surrounding you on an afternoon RG vacay among the top shops and beautiful brick-lined streets of Avalon. It is a great place to Relax, Reflex and Recharge…

What are your fave stores in Avalon? Let your fellow RGs know, so we can stop by on our next quick vacay to Avalon…

Resort Girls Stretch Like a Puppy to Melt Your Fuzz

September 18, 2015

Dogs do it and cats do it every morning…stretch that is, and humans need to do it too. One good reason to stretch is to keep your muscles in motion and another is to keep your skin smoother – those ripples you tend to see are too tight muscles. You need to get them moving and massaged or Resort Girls will get the fuzz!

“The what?!” you say? Why did this RG want to know about the buzz about this thing called the fuzz…to improve the looks of my skin? RGs of all ages want to look and feel their best, but should always try to do it naturally. Natural is so much healthier. Whenever this RG hears some new buzz about how to achieve this, she will certainly share with other RGs.

My chiropractor was the one who told me to learn about the fuzz by viewing a popular video. Let me warn you, it does have dead people parts in it, so not a good thing to view while eating dinner like this RG was. My chicken wing just looked a bit too much like someone’s arm.

Anyway, this is a fun and cute video by Dr. Gill Hedley to view and learn the buzz about your RG fuzz.

As he says in the video, every morning when you wake up and stretch… you melt your fuzz. Less fuzz has lead to smoother skin in this RGs case.

I know my little pooch Windsor would pop out of his little bed and do a big puppy stretch in front of the door every morning. Each and every day he stretched, even when he came out of his little doggie house after his nap.

So, we Resort Girls need to learn from our adorable best friends, our pets. Get down on the floor with your puppy or kitty cat and stretch away together! If not, recruit your BFF RG and get moving each AM with a quick walk, or yoga class before work and stretch — but always seek professional trainers before any new physical activity. As with any movement, there are proper stretches too. Yoga is a great way to learn some healthy moves and it has been where this RG has learned the best stretches for her body.

So share the buzz on fuzz… and keep stretching like your puppy!

Do Resort Girls Who Play Together Stay Together?

September 16, 2015

Are your BFF Resort Girls also your sporting buddies? This RG has a theory that women who play together stay together as lifelong friends. Kids grow up and careers change, but your sporting game generally stays the same with age.

Exercising and playing together is a lifelong pursuit. How did I come up with this personal RG deduction? Well, most of my lifelong friends are the ones this RG plays sports with – golf mainly, but we try others too. My newer RG friends are fellow tennis players and yogis, both of which are my newest sports obsessions.

TennismeganwithSam

The competition of the sports can often dilute the competition that sometimes infiltrates RG relationships, including lifelong friendships. A little friendly competition among Resort Girls is a good thing. It keeps a Resort Girl at the top of her game as well as keeping her RG body in shape, mind healthy, and helps build lasting relationships – all of which are priceless.

Exercise is always a good thing in stressful and emotional times, as it helps with the depression and anxiety that life may bring. Not to mention it’s always a good thing to whack that little golf ball or bouncy tennis ball to get any frustrations out! Take it out on the ball, not your family or friends.

Many times, Resort Girls being on the courts and course can provide an excellent networking opportunity. Resort girls bring other RGs and often times they soon become a good professional connection or even a new BFF RG!

Let us know if many of your BFFs are also playing partners. Resort Girls who play together stay together!
